We regularly review, evolve and adjust our product offerings to best meet the changing needs of the market. After careful evaluation, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Medicare Cost plans in North Dakota and South Dakota effective Jan. 1, 2026.
We understand this will impact your business and the members you serve. This decision was not made lightly and reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable, high-quality coverage for our members and a focused strategy for future growth. We remain committed to our North Dakota and South Dakota commercial markets, which are unaffected by this change. HealthPartners Medicare Group Retiree plans will also continue to be offered nationally.
How will this affect members?
Current members will have coverage through Dec. 31, 2025, but will need to find new coverage starting Jan. 1, 2026. There will be a special election period that runs through Feb. 28, 2026, but to avoid experiencing a gap in coverage, we encourage members to enroll in a new plan by Dec. 31, 2025. If they don’t enroll in another Medicare plan, they will have Medicare fee-for-service coverage starting Jan. 1, 2026.
What’s next?
You’ll hear further details on this change in the coming months, and members will be informed by mail in early October. Please be aware that per CMS rules, you cannot share or discuss this information with your clients until after we have sent our communication in October.
